Dinorwic Quarry 2 1/2in white tare weights for slate wagons
- We make the transfer in:
- 4mm = 1 ft scale
- 5.5mm = 1ft scale
- 7mm = 1ft scale
- 16mm = 1ft scale
- plus others when requested
- The photographs we have inspected show tares of between 6-3-0 and 8-0-0
- Most wagons had a tare of 7-3-0 or 7-2-0
- We have assumed that the numbers represent hundredweight - quarters - pounds, as such weights are to be expected of a wagon this size.
- One photograph shows a wagon with a tare of 9-0-0. This has filled-in sides, which would explain the extra weight
- The numbers are fairly untidy, so we have assumed that they were hand-painted, or very badly weathered.
- Some of the 'closed' numbers, eg 9 and 0 appear to be stencilled
- Some tares display a single line (-) between the numbers, whereas others have a double line (=)
- In order to preserve the random appearance of the tares, we have drawn variations of all the numbers
